Deliverable 3 . 2 : Study and design of methods for concept blending

Executive summary Task 3.2 is concerned with the development of computational methods for concept blending and their implementation in a Concept Generator prototype. In this deliverable, we present a review of existing computational approaches to conceptual blending used in the development of creative systems. Besides providing an overview of state-of-the-art methods, this study aims (a) to emphasise the potential advantages of using conceptual blending methods in creative systems and (b) to highlight and discuss the current challenges in the design of methods for conceptual blending in a computational creativity context. Additionally, we discuss the relation between conceptual blending and bisociation with the aim of exploring possible ways to approach some crucial open questions in conceptual blending.
